Research has shown that sleeping on the back of pregnant women in the last week of pregnancy can be as dangerous as drinking 10 cigarettes.
          According to scientists at the University of Auckland, women who are born on the back instead of lying on one side during the quarterly period of their pregnancy increase their chances of birth weight by up to three times.

The decreased blood supply in children: Scientists believe that lying on the back during the last days of pregnancy reduces the blood supply in children. By lying on the back, the umbilical cord is compressed.
      In this study conducted on about 1760 pregnant women from Britain, New Zealand and Australia, researchers have found shocking facts. They interviewed a minimum of 28 months pregnant women, in which they were asked about the sleeping state. Out of these, 57 were pregnant women who said that they had been sleeping on their back for the last four weeks. According to the study, women lying on their backs were three times more likely to have a low birth weight baby.
