Introduction to COPD

COPD ie "Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease" is a serious respiratory disease. People suffering from COPD mostly suffer from shortness of breath. The situation has become more dangerous due to the cold and poor levels of pollution for the past several weeks. According to research, in 2017 alone 1 million people died due to COPD.

What is COPD?

It is a lung disease in which there is swelling in the windpipe, which causes difficulty in breathing. Lung function is severely affected by COPD. Oxygen is not able to enter the body completely, nor carbon dioxide is completely released. In its different stages, there are holes in the lungs, the lungs shrink, or the lungs may get worse. The damage caused by COPD cannot be completely cured, but it can be controlled with the right treatment and care along with clean weather.

What is the reason for COPD

Smoking is believed to be one of the main causes of COPD. According to experts, 20 to 30 percent of smokers can suffer from this disease. Besides, COPD can also catch people living in damp and damp areas, people living in the heat and smoke generated by cooking, and people living in dust and smoke for a long time. People with asthma can also get the disease from a person due to genetics. In cities where PM 2.5 remains dangerously long in the environment, people may be vulnerable to COPD. In fact, these very subtle particles of PM 2.5 that are not visible, go into our body with breath and get stuck in the lungs and cannot get out, which injures the lungs. In the event of infection, the mucous deposited in those holes are not able to come out, due to which the lungs start to harden gradually. Their contractions do not occur completely while breathing and exhaling. They cannot take oxygen properly. It takes a lot of emphasis to breathe and leave.

What is the treatment of COPD

Lung damage due to COPD cannot be compensated, but the right treatment at the right time can prevent the disease from becoming more serious. The following are the treatments for COPD-
Follow the doctor's instructions thoroughly to maintain medications, inhalers, and nebulizers. Be prepared to make the necessary changes in lifestyle.
➤ Doctors perform the treatment by detecting the condition of the lungs also by chest X-ray, blood test, PFT examination.
➤ If the amount of oxygen in the blood of the patient is found to be less than normal, then the doctor can advise oxygen therapy.
➤ When no other treatment has benefited, doctors may recommend a lung transplant, in which the damaged part is separated.

Always take care

➤ Always keep a mask or scarf on the nose while exiting, so that cold air does not enter the body directly through the nose.
➤ If the mucus has accumulated in the chest, then steam it regularly in the morning and evening.
➤ Those who are on oxygen therapy should monitor the oxygen level in the body through a pulse oximeter.
➤ Avoid dusty and damp places.
➤ Always have fresh homemade food.
➤ Regular exercise and take a walk. Pranayama's actions make the respiratory system strong.
➤ When choosing nebulizer, always choose the right fitting mask. Breathe long through the nose and exhale through the mouth, so that the medicine can get the full benefit. Clean the mask regularly.

Do not ignore these symptoms
