Introduction 

Consuming a cup of black tea daily can reduce the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's. This has been claimed in recent research. Black tea is rich in Flavanols. This nutrient helps in improving the health of the brain.

Flavanol reduces inflammation

Researcher Doctor Hollande said, our results show that taking flavanols with diet reduces the risk of Alzheimer's and dementia. The antioxidants in flavanols protect brain cells from damage and thus reduce the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's.

There are four types of flavanols

In this research, flavanols are divided into 4 different types.
  1. kaempferol
  2. Isorhaminate
  3. Myricetin
  4. Curacetin
(1)  kaempferol- kaempferol which contains green leafy vegetables such as; Spinach, black, broccoli, and black tea are plentiful and reduces the risk of dementia by up to 51%.

(2)  Isorhaminate- Isorhaminate is found in olive oil, red wine, pear, and tomato sauce. This reduces the risk of dementia by up to 38%.

(3)  MyricetinMyricetin is found in black, orange, tomato, and red wine, and reduces dementia by up to 38%. 

(4)  Curacetin- No effect of curacetin has been observed. 

The study was done on the elderly

A study was done on 921 elders at the University of Chicago. He was monitored for 12 years and asked about his diet. This research found that people who consumed more flavonols in about 1 cup of black tea per day were found to have less than half the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's. Olives, pears, oranges, and broccoli contain plenty of flavanols that can prevent amnesia.
            More studies are needed to confirm this, said lead researcher Doctor Thomas Holland, but the results of this research provide evidence of the benefits of flavanols. Consuming tea along with more fruits and vegetables is an easy and inexpensive way to prevent dementia. As the number of elderly around the world is increasing, any method of preventing dementia can be very beneficial for the medical field.

The Study was done like this

The study studied 921 elderly. The age of these people was 81 years. They were asked questions about their diet. These people were monitored for 12 years and intensively examined every year to detect Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's symptoms were seen in approximately 220 participants. Those who consumed 15.3 mg of flavanols a day showed a reduced risk of Alzheimer's up to 48%. Location and lifestyle along with diet were also taken into consideration during this research. In the group consuming the most flavonols, 28 out of 186 people had dementia, while 54 of the 128 people who consumed the least flavanols had dementia. Other Alzheimer's hazards such as; This result was confirmed only after taking into account diabetes and hypertension.
